Science Year 1991 – HabFiles Update

Science Year 1991 - ThumbnailThanks to SpaceCanada, the HabFiles section of the site has a new Space Camp article!

From the book, Science Year 1991, we have here a pretty lengthly and in-depth article with quite a few nice photos!

The shot of how the TCF looked circa 1990 is especially nice, as is the mention of a conversation between Wernher von Braun and Ed Buckbee, von Braun conveying his idea for Space Camp to Buckbee.

#1 Space Camp Contest & Rules

Space Camp 25th Anniversary LogoIn honor of the 25th Anniversary, Space Camp is having a contest to determine just who is the #1 Space Camp fan!

The prizes are excellent, including VIP treatment at the 25th Anniversary events in June!

All you have to do is make a 3-5 minute video explaining just what makes you Space Camp’s (or Aviation Challenge’s) number one fan!

You can download the rules and entry form here.

The deadline for submission is March 30, 2007.

Finally, here’s an idea, if you’re stuck thinking of something:

Make a video of yourself getting the Space Camp or Aviation Challenge logo tattooed on your arm or something! That’s gotta show you’re a pretty big fan of Space Camp.

You know, not that I seriously considered doing that myself for even a minute. Really!

A Time for Courage – Video Wanted

Does anyone have the video for this on their computer or a DVD or something?

If so, I would appreciate it very much if I could get a copy or borrow the disc or something.

Drop me an email.

Much obliged.

-Vincent

Update: I shall be getting hold of a copy soon, with many thanks to Alumni Andi!

Update #2: Alumni Andi has posted a very nice copy of A Time for Courage on YouTube!

Make the Hall of Fame Induction Work for You

Alumni Andi swung by the HabForum this evening with an urgent message, posted here in full:

Space Camp 25th Anniversary LogoLoyal readers and alumni, the mothership is working on the details for the Space Camp Hall of Fame event. They want to host it at the Von Braun Center in downtown Huntsville. I call upon you to respond to the following questions in the form of a comment to the forum.

  1. Would you travel to Huntsville for the SPACE CAMP Hall of Fame if it was held at another venue?
  2. How much would you pay to attend this event if William “Captain Kirk” Shatner was the emcee?
  3. Would to rather have a sit down, full service dinner or a buffet dinner?

Please reply with comments. This is very urgent, there is a 9 am CST meeting tomorrow that you can affect the outcome on.

Voice your opinion (quickly) here!

Emcee Shatner

William Tiberius ShatnerWilliam Tiberius Shatner has been announced as an emcee for the very first Space Camp Hall of Fame induction banquet to be held on June 13, 2007.

If you actually needed another reason to try to get down to Space Camp this June, this has to be it!

And, if we’re lucky, he may not sing (oh, I kid, Bill)!  But if he must, I vote for No Tears for Caesar.

Here’s a link to one of the many stories out there.  The story has been picked up by a huge number of outlets which should amount to excellent press for Space Camp!

And Alumni Andi had it first!

Brent Simon

This is really old news that I have been incredibly negligent to have not posted sooner, but Brent Simon has been making rounds on the internet for months now with his “Space Camp” song.

What should be the true Space Camp theme song, here’s the original:

Well, he’s been appearing on real shows as well (the G4 network, for example).

But, as Alumni Andi recently pointed out, he just made an appearance on Live with Jimmy Kimmel to sing “Space Camp!”

Alumni Andi’s comments were most amusing as well:

Consider this, with the flood of 25th Anniversary excitement is there anyone that can compete with Brent’s display of SPACE CAMP LOVE in the upcoming #1 Space Camp Fan contest?

If it’s going to take getting on the Jimmy Kimmel show to win the contest, I would say everyone has their work cut out for them!  But the results should be quite interesting!

Fox & Friends Footage

As published on YouTube by and mentioned in her latest post, Alumni Andi has given us the footage from Space Camp that aired on Fox & Friends on December 7, 2006.

Actually, I guess I should say in “their” latest post.  While we had been given the impression that it was more than one person behind the myspace page, when Charity was revealed, it sounded as if she was the only one behind it.

But in the latest blog, I was scolded for my photograph selection with the following, “I would like to thank Vincent of www.Hab1.com for posting such a lovely picture of my counterpart.”

Time will tell!
