First Inductees Announced for Hall of Fame

The wait is over!

The first group of friends, alumni, and staff to be inducted into the fame was announced today!

Here’s the list:

  • Wernher von Braun
  • Ed Buckbee
  • Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger
  • Georg von Tiesenhausen
  • Dan Oates
  • Amanda Stubblefield
  • James Rice
  • Penny Pettigrew

An article from the Huntsville Times can be read online and it gives a short overview of everyone’s backgrounds (though I hope you know who Wernher von Braun is).

Congratulations to the inductees!

Come in person to the Hall of Fame event on June 13, 2007 and see them inducted! Hear Shatner sing! Get your tickets soon!

Belated News: The April Newsletter is Available

Pardon the length of time for getting this out, but the April Alumni Newsletter has been released. I swear, a guy can’t move down to Huntsville without tons of stuff happening. This was one of them.

Brian Matney, another Hab1-er is the featured alumnus this month. Amongst other achievements, Brian is the one responsible for THAT team patch. The one example that counselors always highlight when discussing mission patches. Read the article for a view of it. You’re bound to go, “Ohhh…THAT patch!”

The newsletter also features news on the 25th anniversary activities and a nice educator camp piece. Again, go read it!

Another #1 Space Camp Fan Entry

SpaceCanada, winner of my SpaceCamp Movie Patch contest, has posted her entry into the #1 Space Camp Fan Contest onto YouTube for everyone to see:

Great entry!

Also, Harmakis has posted her entry back now that the deadline as passed. If you missed it the first time, here you go:

Update: So, apparently, she once again did not intend for this video to be consumed by the general public. In my opinion, putting it up on the most popular place to share videos with the entire planet wasn’t really the best strategy to achieve the goal of not having said planet look at the thing, but nevertheless. Harmakis has once again removed the video and that is her right.

I wonder when we’ll find out who won?

Guess what’s for Sale in the Gift Shop?!

Space Camp Movie PatchIt’s about time they did this, frankly. And yet, I’m surprised it had never even crossed my mind before.

They’ve reissued (though one could make the argument that they’ve just now issued) the SpaceCamp movie patch!

That’s right! In honor of the 25th Anniversary, Space Camp is really going back to its past, producing copies of the patch from the movie SpaceCamp. This was the precursor to the patch we’ve all come to know and love over the years.

Space Camp has (thus far) produced only 500 copies of the movie patch. And it’s currently not available for sale online, either. Therefore, the only way to get this patch is to 1) Purchase an original for large sums of money on ebay if/when you can find one for sale or 2) visit the Space & Rocket Center gift shop to buy one!

However, the nice guy that I am, I’m going to give option 3. Go make a post here (post anything) to enter, and one person will be randomly selected to get a SpaceCamp movie patch! You have until Saturday, April 7, 2007 at 11:59pm EDT to be eligible.

#1 Space Camp Fan – Two One Fine Examples

Again, all entries for the #1 Space Camp Fan contest must get to the post office no later than Saturday so that they get postmarked by March 30.

Two entries have been posted on YouTube by their respective authors.  If any one is having trouble getting inspiration for their video, or just want to stake out the competition, here are some examples:

First, Keri Bean posted her entry to the contest:

While the Hab1.com’s own Harmakis submitted this entry (granted Keri is a member of the HabForum as well but has yet to post):

It seems that Harmakis hadn’t intended this video to be found and viewed and so she has taken it off of YouTube.

Thanks to Mdanner423 for pointing these out to me so I can point them out to all of you!
