Space Academy
Ages 12-14
Ages 12-14
In a mere six days,
participants will experience what it takes to be an
astronaut! Every day is packed with new activities
and adventures: learn how the space shuttle works,
build a rocket and watch it soar, see how astronauts
eat and sleep in space, take a stroll on the Moon,
and more! After some comprehensive training, you'll
have what it takes to fly the space shuttle to the
International Space Station, go for a space walk, and
safely return to Earth.
This isn't Space Camp®!
You're too old for that! That's why Space Academy® is
more than just a camp! With new activities, extra
missions, and advanced lessons, it's a whole new
adventure!
Trainees have the
option of selecting one of three tracks, each with
their own specialties. The 'space only' trainees will
tackle the challenge of an additional two hour
mission, with more anomalies, EVAs and experiments.
The 'space and aviation' track further explores the
principles of flight, including time in the
simulators at the neighboring Aviation Challenge®
campus. Trainees in the 'space and robotics track'
will experiment with LEGO® MindStorms robotics
invention system, constructing a robot to complete
specific tasks. And this is in addition to the fun
stuff described above!
Just when you thought
six days was an adventure, there's more! Space
Academy® is also available in a 12 day progrm!. Add
to the adventure with a six hour mission, planned in
large part by the trainees themselves. Space
Camp/Academy alumni will be challenged further with
additional activities and briefings.
While program content
remains similar from year to year, every experience
at Space Academy is different. Trainees will remember
new things, have different missions, and make new
friends each time they return to camp. These
experiences build upon one another, often making
consecutive trips to Space Academy better than the
ones before!
Please note that you do
not need to attend Space Camp® to fully participate
in the Space Academy® program
